The Tree Nursery
Our
tree nursery is situated at Plenty in the picturesque Derwent Valley 40 km
north-west of Hobart.
The nursery has grown as the industry expanded and now has the capacity to produce 30,000 inoculated trees per annum. Plans for further expansions will see the output increase to 40,000 trees.
The tree nursery operation is managed by Co-Chairman Peter Cooper with one full time staff member and up 10 casuals during the busy periods.
The
tree nursery is operated under strict quarantine and hygiene conditions to
ensure a high standard of quality control.
The inoculation process is based on a system developed by the French government. This system is currently used by the leading French company involved in the production of mycorrhized trees. Perigord Truffles of Tasmania have maintained a close relationship with French truffle scientists who are working on the inoculation process.
The trees are grown for a period of twelve months before being sold to ensure a high level of mycorrhization has been achieved.
