Quality of our French Truffles

TrufflesThe truffle harvest commences in mid June through to early September.

The truffle harvest commences with the arrival of the frosts and the freezing nights which brings on the wonderful aroma of the French truffle. We do not start the harvest until the truffles have reached maturity to ensure the highest quality truffles.

The truffles are produced in the cold areas of Tasmania, Victoria and NSW which enables us to have a continuity of supply through the season.

Truffles grown in our cold soils exhibit the sweet, earthy fragrance and savory characteristics of the finest truffles from the Perigord and Provence departments of Southern France.

During the harvest period we are harvesting daily and pride ourselves that we can have truffles delivered to their destination within 24 hours of harvest.

Packaging

The truffles are packed in glass containers inside a polystyrene box.

We consider the use of glass containers for the packing of the truffles is critical for maintaining the quality of the truffles.

Perigord Truffles of Tasmania has developed a packaging system to ensure that the freshness of the truffle is maintained.

The glass containers are then packed inside a polystyrene box. High density foam is placed around the glass container to ensure safe transit and small frozen ice packs are included to make certain the truffles are maintained at a temperature between 3 and 5 degrees Celsius.
