| Harvest 2006
Mid June saw the arrival of cold weather across south eastern Australia and with it, the maturity of the early season truffles. Truffle harvesting commenced in the Central Tablelands of NSW and Northern Tasmania in mid June and was completed by early September. The quality of the truffles was exceptional which further vindicated PTT’s decision to concentrate on the cold soils of SE Australia. The finest quality truffles were marketed to Australia’s leading restaurants for $3,000 per kilogram. The truffle harvest in Tasmania was successful with production increasing in a number of truffières. This was in spite of a very wet spring in Northern Tasmania which created less than ideal growing conditions during the period of truffle initiation. The number of young truffières in Victoria and NSW producing truffles increased significantly. This follows on from the success in 2005 of harvesting the first truffles near Blayney in NSW and in the Yarra Valley, Victoria. During the 2006 season, PTT harvested truffles from 9 of the 11 truffières established and managed in Victoria and NSW. These truffières were established less than 5 years ago! They include sites in the Southern Tablelands, Goulburn and Orange districts of NSW and in Victoria.
