Duncan Garvey

Duncan Garvey B Ag Eco, UNE; Grad Dip Agri-Bus, Monash

Duncan has been working on developing the French truffle industry since 1993. In this time, he has critically reviewed the literature on truffles, made a number of trips to France to research truffles and conducted market research in Europe, Japan and the United Kingdom Duncan has had extensive experience in Agri-business.

After completing studies Duncan was employed as an agronomist. During his time as an agronomist, he developed new cropping opportunities for Tasmanian farmers and was instrumental in extending a number of innovative farm management practices.

Within the company structure Duncan Garvey is responsible for:

• Principal contact with new and existing growers

• Marketing of truffles domestically and internationally.

• Development of value added truffle products with chef Tim Pak Poy

• Ongoing market truffle research in Europe and Asia

Peter Cooper

Peter along with Duncan Garvey established Perigord Truffles of Tasmania in 1993.

Peter Cooper operates a mixed farming property in the Derwent Valley, Tasmania. The enterprise mix includes livestock, raspberries, blackcurrants, and vegetable seed crops. Peter was also actively involved in establishment of the essential oils industry in Tasmania.

In 1993 Peter was awarded an Australian Nuffield Farming Scholarship enabling him to study truffle production in Europe for 5 months in 1994. He was also selected to participate in the Worshipful Company of Farmers, Advanced Agricultural Business Management Course at London University Wye Campus.

Within the company structure Peter Cooper’s responsibility include:

• The company's nursery operation and the production of inoculated trees
• Management and co-ordination of truffle harvesting/dogs in Tasmania

Dalene Devonshire

Dalene has been employed by Perigord Truffles of Tasmania for the past 5 years. Dalene’s role in the company is very diverse and has become an integral part of our organisation.

Dalene’s role has now evolved into a position of managing the harvesting operation and distribution centre in NSW.

Dalene is involved in liaising with our domestic and international clients and speaks regularly at truffle functions.

Dalene has recently returned from a RIRDIC sponsored study trip to the Perigord and Provence regions of France.
